(LEAD) 12 people rescued after fishing boats run aground off Jeju Island; 1 in cardiac arrest

JEJU, South Korea, Feb. 1 (Yonhap) -- Twelve people were rescued Saturday after two fishing boats carrying 15 crew members ran aground in waters off the southern resort island of Jeju, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard said it received reports that a 32-ton fishing boat carrying seven people and a 29-ton vessel with eight crew members were stranded on a rock in waters off Jeju Island around 9:25 a.m.

As of 12:06 p.m., 12 crew members had been rescued. Of those, one member was reportedly in cardiac arrest.

Authorities are continuing search operations for the three other crew members, according to the Coast Guard.
