Protest against candidate's insulting words
Kim Da-hye (C), a graduate of Ewha Womans University, has her head shaved during a protest in front of the headquarters of the main opposition Democratic Party (DP) in Seoul on April 9, 2024, denouncing "unverified and speculative" remarks made by Kim Jun-hyeok, a DP candidate for the imminent general elections, and demanding his withdrawal from the candidacy. Kim, a professor-turned-politician, alleged on a YouTube channel in August 2022 that Kim Hwal-lan, the first president of the university, played a significant role in sending wartime "comfort women" to Japan and also coerced Ewha students to provide sexual favors to U.S. military officers during the U.S. military's rule of the southern half of the Korean Peninsula from 1945 to 1948. The university promptly announced its intention to pursue legal action against him. (Yonhap)
