Seoul fire department's mobilization service briefly goes down due to network error

SEOUL, Nov. 27 (Yonhap) -- The mobile data terminal (MDT) service used by fire engines to respond to disasters went down for 90 minutes Monday morning due to a communication network error, officials said.

The Seoul Metropolitan Fire & Disaster Headquarters said the network failure occurred at 8 a.m., disrupting the MDT service, which delivers the real-time GPS location of the person in need to fire trucks in the city.

KT Corp., the company in charge of providing the communications network for the emergency operation center in Seoul, said the temporary disruptions were attributable to issues in the internet circuits.

The company vowed to take measures to prevent recurrence of such system disruptions in the future.

The fire service said the disruptions in MDT services did not affect the fire rescue efforts or patient transfers.
