SEOUL, Nov. 14 (Yonhap) -- K-pop girl groups ILLIT and aespa, along with boy group &TEAM, have been selected to perform on NHK’s year-end special program “Kohaku Uta Gassen.”
The organizers of “Kohaku Uta Gassen” announced the lineup for the 76th edition of the show through the program’s official social media accounts on Friday.
“Kohaku Uta Gassen,” broadcast every Dec. 31 on NHK, is Japan’s most prominent year-end music program. Artists invited to perform are generally regarded as top stars with strong popularity in the country.
ILLIT will appear on the show for the second consecutive year.
The group said via its official social media, “We are truly happy and honored to receive this opportunity again following last year,” adding that it will present “a performance that will stay in viewers’ hearts for a long time.”
aespa and &TEAM, a Japanese boy group under Hybe, were included in the lineup for the first time this year.
Since the 1980s, numerous Korean artists — including Cho Yong-pil, Kye Eun-sook and Kim Yeon-ja, as well as BoA and TVXQ in the 2000s — have performed on “Kohaku Uta Gassen.”
