On June 30, Seoul officially requested Pyongyang give prior notice on its opening of dams bordering South Korea as the Korean Peninsula has entered a monthlong rainy season. Six South Koreans were killed in September 2009, when the North released a massive amount of water from its Hwanggang Dam into the Imjin River without prior notice. (Yonhap)
