"It is the unwavering position of our party and the republic to ceaselessly strengthen and develop the friendly relations between North Korea and China," the Rodong Sinmun newspaper reported.

SEOUL -- The Chinese Embassy in North Korea has hosted a reception to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the signing of a mutual defense treaty between the two nations, Pyongyang's state media reported Thursday.

SEOUL -- A heat wave is scorching North Korea, with daytime high temperatures in the capital expected to reach up to 34 C, state media reported Wednesday.

The morning low in Pyongyang was 25 C in the day, about 4 C higher than the average, and the day's high is forecast to reach 34 C, the Korean Central Broadcasting Station reported.

The North's Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) sent the message dated Saturday to Gennady Andreyevich Zyuganov, who was unanimously reelected that day as chairman of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation's Central Committee, according to the Korean Central News Agency.

SEOUL -- North Korea on Monday heaped praise on state founder Kim Il-sung, recalling his leadership as flawless as the country marks the 31st anniversary of the late leader's death this week.

"Our great leader led the revolution to victory without a single mistake (of deviating from) the policy line or showing even the slightest bias," the Rodong Sinmun, the North's most widely read newspaper, reported, calling Kim "a peerless great man."
