3 in cardiac arrest in parking lot fire in Gwangmyeong

GWANGMYEONG, South Korea, July 17 (Yonhap) -- Three people were transported to hospitals in cardiac arrest after a fire broke out at an apartment parking lot in Gwangmyeong, just south of Seoul, on Thursday, authorities said.

Four others sustained serious injuries, including one person who suffered burns over their entire body, with two others sustaining minor injuries due to smoke inhalation.

The fire broke out around 9:05 p.m. in the parking facility of the apartment complex.

Although the flames were largely contained, about a dozen residents remained stranded on the building's rooftop, awaiting rescue, officials said.

Police plan to launch a full investigation into the cause of the fire once extinguishing efforts are fully completed.
