■ (LEAD) Special counsel summons ex-President Yoon, ex-first lady Kim to appear for questioning

SEOUL -- A special counsel team said Monday it has summoned former President Yoon Suk Yeol and former first lady Kim Keon Hee to appear for questioning over allegations of election interference and other irregularities.

Special counsel Min Joong-ki's team sent a summons to the Seoul Detention Center where Yoon is under arrest to request his appearance as a suspect at 10 a.m. July 29, assistant special counsel Moon Hong-ju said during a press briefing.

■ (2nd LD) Special counsel questions ex-first lady's associate over stock manipulation, influence peddling

SEOUL -- A special counsel team was questioning a key associate of former first lady Kim Keon Hee on Monday over allegations he peddled his influence to secure a suspended prison sentence for a business partner.

The team, led by special counsel Min Joong-ki, summoned Lee Jong-ho, former head of investment firm Blackpearl Invest, to its office in central Seoul, two days after it raided his home and car.

■ Ex-defense chief acknowledges controversial call with ex-President Yoon

SEOUL -- The defense ministry said Monday it has suspended the head of the Drone Operations Command over suspicions that military drones were illegally dispatched to North Korea last year as part of preparations for former President Yoon Suk Yeol's imposition of martial law.

Maj. Gen. Kim Yong-dae, commander of the unit, was separated from his duties Monday pending suspension, the defense ministry said, a day after an arrest warrant was sought for him in connection with the investigation into Yoon's failed martial law bid last December.
