S. Korea halts radio broadcast into N. Korea in peace overture

SEOUL -- South Korea has halted the broadcast of a propaganda radio program into North Korea, the defense ministry said Monday, as the South seeks to mend frayed ties with the North.

The move is the latest in Seoul's reconciliatory gestures, with President Lee Jae Myung vowing to restore inter-Korean ties and resume dialogue with Pyongyang.

N. Korea's Kim expected to stand alongside Xi, Putin at China's military parade: NIS

SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is expected to stand alongside his Chinese and Russian counterparts, Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin, at a high-profile military parade in China this week, Seoul's spy agency said Tuesday.

Kim is set to arrive in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon after having crossed the border between the two countries at dawn, the National Intelligence Service told lawmakers at a closed-door briefing.

About 2,000 N.K. troops deployed to Russia estimated to have been killed: NIS

SEOUL -- The spy agency estimated around 2,000 North Korean troops dispatched to Russia for combat in Ukraine were killed, lawmakers said Tuesday.

The National Intelligence Service (NIS) shared the assessment during a closed-door briefing to the parliamentary intelligence committee, Reps. Park Sun-won and Lee Seong-kweun told reporters.

SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un appears to be accompanied by his daughter, Ju-ae, on his visit to China, South Korea's spy agency said Tuesday.

The National Intelligence Service made the assessment hours after Kim arrived in Beijing in a special armored train to attend Wednesday's ceremony marking the anniversary of the end of World War II.
