Nat'l Assembly speaker attends military parade in Beijing

SEOUL, Sept. 3 (Yonhap) -- National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik on Wednesday attended a massive military parade in China alongside North Korea's Kim Jong-un and other world leaders.

Woo attended the military parade with his wife in Tiananmen Square marking China's anniversary of victory over Japan in World War II.

Throughout the event, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un remained next to Chinese President Xi Jinping. Kim, Russia's Vladimir Putin and Xi ascended the rostrum together while Woo was positioned further back in the procession.

Speaking to reporters before departing for China, Woo said he was unsure whether an encounter with Kim will take place.

Woo is scheduled to meet with senior officials of the National People's Congress and the State Council before returning home Friday.
