Singer Choi Yena hopes new single 'Catch Catch' inspires Korean baseball team
By Shim Sun-ah
SEOUL, March 11 (Yonhap) -- K-pop singer Choi Yena said Wednesday she hopes her new song "Catch Catch" will help inspire the national baseball team to victory at the World Baseball Classic.
"The Korean team has made it to the quarterfinals, and my song happens to be 'Catch Catch,'" Choi said with a laugh during a press conference marking her new release. "It would be great if people played it when a player makes a catch or during a strikeout."
The song fronts her fifth EP, "Love Catcher," which is set to be released later in the day. "I hope the track can help our team take first place," she added.
The EP comprises five tracks that explore moments of love, which she described as "drifting in like a spring breeze," each rendered in a different mood and color.
An upbeat electro-pop track, "Catch Catch" combines an addictive melody with playful energy. It captures the tension of a relationship that shifts between chasing and being chased, a theme Choi delivers with her trademark bright charm.
Introducing the track, Choi said, "It has not only an addictive hook but also a cheeky, lively charm. It's a track that makes your body move before your mind does." She added with a grin, "My goal for the promotional activities for this album is to see 5,000 uploads of the 'Catch Catch' dance challenge videos. I want people to enjoy the song so much that they can't help but dance."
The song's catchy chorus, repeating the line "dda dda dda," evokes the hook-driven style of hits from second-generation K-pop.
"To bring out that nostalgic sentiment, I watched clips of my seniors like T-ara and Orange Caramel," she said. "I hope this track becomes a memory for some and a fresh new song for others."
Looking ahead to her 10th debut anniversary in two years, Choi expressed gratitude to her fans and producing team.
"I'm always thankful to be performing onstage like this," she said. "Wherever there's a stage, I want to be there and I hope to remain a steady favorite for a long time with my fans."
