KRX to operate pre-, after-hour markets starting June 29
SEOUL, Jan. 26 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's main bourse operator will begin operating a pre-market and an after-hours market on June 29, it said Monday, with an information session set to be held later in the day to introduce such a change to member firms.
The move marks the first step in the Korea Exchange's (KRX) plan to introduce around-the-clock trading by December 2027, to compete with global exchanges, such as the Nasdaq, already taking steps to expand its trading hours to 24.
The KRX is reportedly planning to operate a pre-market from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and an after-hours market from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Official trading hours at the KRX currently run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Under the envisioned plan, trading hours will be extended from the current 6 1/2 hours to 11 1/2 hours.
The information session will be held at the KRX's building in Seoul at 4 p.m., with the attendance of some 250 officials from member companies, the bourse operator added.
