Special envoys deliver Lee's letter, greetings to new Honduran president
SEOUL, Feb. 5 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung's special envoys have delivered his personal letter and greetings to new Honduran President Nasry Asfura during a meeting in the Central American country, Seoul's foreign ministry said Thursday.
Lee's delegation of special envoys -- Reps. Boo Seung-chan and Lee Hoon-ki of the ruling Democratic Party -- conveyed the message the previous day (local time) during a meeting with Asfura aimed at establishing a partnership with the new Honduran government, the ministry said.
The former businessman, backed by U.S. President Donald Trump, was sworn in a week ago, pledging to create jobs and crack down on crime.
During his meeting with Lee's delegation, Asfura highlighted the seriousness of the country's health infrastructure, such as shortages of medicine and hospitals, long patient waiting lists and delays in diagnosing and treating seriously ill patients.
The delegation shared South Korea's wish to pursue mutually beneficial projects for cooperation through its economic development cooperation fund or grant programs, the foreign ministry said.
The delegation also plans to meet with the Korean community and Korean businesspeople operating in the country.
