Ex-special forces blocked from visiting Gwangju victims' cemetery
Police block members of a special forces association from entering the May 18 National Cemetery in the southern city of Gwangju on June 3, 2023. They visited the cemetery to pay tribute to the victims of the military's crackdown on the 1980 Gwangju democratic uprising. But some civic groups opposed their visit, and police were mobilized to prevent a clash between the two sides. In 1980, special forces were mobilized to suppress the democratic uprising. (Yonhap)
