SEOUL, Dec. 18 (Yonhap) -- North Korea fired a long-range ballistic missile into the East Sea on Monday in the regime's fifth intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launch this year. The following is a chronology of North Korea's ICBM launches since last year.
Feb. 27, 2022 -- North Korea fires a ballistic missile toward the East Sea, which it claims to be a test to develop its military spy satellite. The missile flew about 300 kilometers at a top altitude of 620 km, according to South Korea's military. Seoul and Washington later said the launch was part of efforts to develop a new ICBM system.
March 5, 2022 -- North Korea fires a ballistic missile toward the East Sea, in what it claims to be a test to develop its military spy satellite. May 25, 2022 -- North Korea fires a suspected ICBM into the East Sea. The missile flew some 360 km at a top altitude of 540 km, according to South Korea's military.
Nov. 3, 2022 -- North Korea fires an ICBM, believed to be the Hwasong-17, but the launch apparently ends in failure, according to South Korean officials. The missile flew about 760 km at an apogee of around 1,920 km at a top speed of Mach 15, the South's military said.
Nov. 18, 2022 -- North Korea launches a Hwasong-17 ICBM into the East Sea. The missile flew around 1,000 km at an apogee of some 6,100 km at a top speed of Mach 22 before splashing into the sea, according to South Korea's military.
Feb. 18, 2023 -- North Korea launches a Hwasong-15 liquid-fuel ICBM into the East Sea. The missile flew some 900 km at a lofted trajectory before splashing into the sea, according to South Korea's military.
March 16, 2023 -- North Korea launches a Hwasong-17 ICBM into the East Sea. The missile flew some 1,000 km at a lofted trajectory before splashing into the sea, according to South Korea's military.
April 13, 2023 -- North Korea launches the new Hwasong-18 solid-fuel ICBM into the East Sea. The missile flew about 1,000 km at a lofted trajectory before splashing into the sea, according to South Korea's military.
July 12, 2023 -- North Korea launches a Hwasong-18 solid-fuel ICBM into the East Sea. The missile flew around 1,000 km at a lofted trajectory before splashing into the sea, according to South Korea's military.
Dec. 18, 2023 -- North Korea launches a long-range ballistic missile into the East Sea. The missile flew about 1,000 km at a lofted trajectory before landing in the sea, according to South Korea's military.
