Defense ministry, aerospace agency discuss expanding space cooperation
SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) -- The defense ministry on Wednesday agreed with the national aerospace agency, Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA), to cooperate in developing space launch site infrastructure as part of efforts to advance the nation's defense space launch capabilities.
The agreement was reached during a working-level meeting between the bodies, held in accordance with the defense and science ministries' 2024 memorandum of understanding aimed at upgrading the space industry.
The two sides agreed to cooperate in setting up infrastructure for spacecraft launch sites and expanding the use of homegrown space rockets, such as the Nuri rocket, to help nurture the local space industry.
Additionally, the two agencies discussed ways to forge private-military collaboration for space development, as well as to expand access to satellite information across the government and industries.
It marked the second meeting between the two agencies since the first session in June last year.
