2 N. Koreans aboard wooden boat discovered in S. Korean waters in early March: military officials

SEOUL -- Two North Koreans aboard a wooden boat drifting in the Yellow Sea were discovered earlier this month and are now under questioning, military officials said Friday.

The military took the two men into custody after a P-3 maritime patrol aircraft discovered the boat in waters 170 kilometers west of the Eocheong Island, south of the Northern Limit Line (NLL), the de facto inter-Korean maritime border, on March 7.

(LEAD) Acting president stresses need for strong joint defense posture with visit to CFC command post

SEJONG/SEOUL -- Acting President Choi Sang-mok stressed the importance of maintaining a strong joint defense posture Tuesday while making a visit to a command post of the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command currently undergoing an annual springtime joint military exercise.

Choi visited the Command Post Theater Air Naval Ground Operations (CP Tango) in Seongnam, just south of Seoul, to inspect the Freedom Shield exercises, set to finish Thursday following an 11-day run, and encourage South Korean and U.S. military officers, according to his office.

Unification ministry expected to resume Panmunjom tour next month

SEOUL -- The unification ministry is expected to resume its tour program to the truce village of Panmunjom on the inter-Korean border next month following its suspension in late 2023 due to military tensions, officials said Tuesday.

"With the goal of resuming the tour program to Panmunjom next month, (the ministry) is carrying out the necessary preparatory works for its operations," a ministry official said.
