(4th LD) Russia's top security official arrives in N. Korea for meeting with Kim Jong-un: reports

SEOUL -- Russia's Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu arrived in North Korea on Friday and was set to meet with leader Kim Jong-un, Russian and North Korean news outlets reported.

Leading a delegation from Russia's Security Council, Shoigu arrived in Pyongyang and will meet with Kim and other North Korean officials, according to Tass and the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

(LEAD) N. Korea successfully test-fired surface-to-air missile system: KCNA

SEOUL -- North Korea has successfully test-fired its latest surface-to-air missile system, which was recently put into full-scale production, as leader Kim Jong-un oversaw the test, state media reported Friday.

The test-firing was conducted by the country's Missile Administration on Thursday to "examine the comprehensive performance" of the missile system being mass-produced at a munitions' industry enterprise, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) noted.

N. Korea raps U.S. questionnaires on communist links for U.N. aid groups as new version of McCarthyism

SEOUL -- North Korea denounced the United States on Friday for sending questionnaires to U.N. aid agencies to ask whether they have any links to communism or an anti-U.S. stance, calling the move "the 21st century version of McCarthyism."

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget sent 36 questions to international organizations, including the U.N.'s refugee agency and the International Committee of the Red Cross, to ask them to state whether they have "anti-American" beliefs or affiliation, according to British broadcaster BBC.

N. Korea slams Japan for considering deploying long-range missiles on Kyushu

SEOUL -- North Korea on Thursday denounced Japan for considering deploying long-range missiles on its southwestern island of Kyushu, warning that the move would make it exposed to attacks by neighboring countries as a "common target."

Japanese media earlier reported that Japan is considering the deployment of long-range missiles on Kyushu in an effort to secure "counterstrike capabilities." The deployment of such missiles, capable of striking North Korea and China's coastal areas, is expected to start in March 2026.

N. Korea denounces U.S. military action against Yemen rebels as 'wanton' law violation

SEOUL -- North Korea on Tuesday denounced the United States' deadly military action against Yemen's Houthi rebels as a "wanton" violation of international law, urging Washington to immediately stop its use of force.

Ma Tong-hui, North Korea's ambassador to Egypt who doubles as envoy to Yemen, made the remarks in a report carried by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) as the Pentagon was reported to have launched a massive military operation in Yemen on Saturday, targeting Iran-aligned Houthi rebels.

SEOUL -- North Korea has convened a nationwide meeting of heads of the most basic administrative unit and urged a fight against anti-socialism, state media reported Tuesday, in what is seen as a measure to heighten state scrutiny and control over the general public.

North Korea held the meeting of heads of "neighborhood units" Sunday and Monday in Pyongyang to discuss measures to implement and renovate such units in line with "demands of the new era," according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

N. Korea slams G7 ministers' call for Pyongyang to abandon nuclear arms

SEOUL -- North Korea on Monday denounced the top diplomats of the Group of Seven (G7) countries' joint call for Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons, threatening to strengthen its nuclear forces both in "quality and quantity."

After a meeting in La Malbaie, Canada, the foreign ministers of the G7 advanced nations issued a joint statement Friday that calls for North Korea to give up its nuclear and ballistic missile programs and condemns its military aid to support Russia's war in Ukraine.

N. Korea's top diplomat meets Russia's vice foreign minister in Pyongyang

SEOUL -- North Korea's Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui has met a senior Russian diplomat visiting Pyongyang, state media reported Sunday, amid talks for a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Choe met a Russian delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko on Saturday, a day after they arrived in the country, according to the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

N. Korean leader visits site of major housing project in Pyongyang

SEOUL -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has visited a major housing construction site nearing completion in Pyongyang, describing it as bringing a "new era of prosperity" to the capital, state media reported Sunday.

Kim visited the construction site of 10,000 apartments in the capital's Hwasong area Saturday -- the third phase of a four-part plan to build 40,000 units in the area, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
