Lee to discuss ways to promote tourism at interagency meeting

By Kim Eun-jung

SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung will discuss the national strategy to boost the tourism industry with relevant ministries during a pan-government meeting on Wednesday, Cheong Wa Dae said.

Lee will attend the expanded national tourism strategy meeting alongside Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, officials from the culture, justice, transport, oceans and finance ministries, as well as presidential aides and outside experts.

It will mark the first time in seven years that a president has attended the meeting, which has typically been chaired by the prime minister.

Cheong Wa Dae said the meeting was arranged to coordinate governmentwide policies aimed at attracting more than 30 million foreign visitors to South Korea and to advance the country's goal of becoming a global tourism powerhouse.

During Tuesday's Cabinet meeting, Lee called for efforts to improve tourism infrastructure nationwide, noting that about 80 percent of inbound travelers currently concentrate in Seoul.
