SK hynix wins over two-thirds of Nvidia's HBM orders for AI platform this year: sources
SEOUL, Jan. 28 (Yonhap) -- SK hynix Inc. has secured over two-thirds of high-bandwidth memory (HBM) supply orders from U.S. tech giant Nvidia Corp. to be used in producing the Vera Rubin artificial intelligence (AI) platform this year, sources said Wednesday.
According to the sources, Nvidia has allocated about 70 percent of its HBM4 demand for the advanced AI architecture to SK hynix, up from the market's previous estimate of around 50 percent, for 2026.
The move comes as the South Korean chipmaker is in the final stages of preparing for full-scale production of HBM4, with samples already supplied to Nvidia.
Industry tracker Counterpoint Research recently estimated SK hynix will account for 54 percent of the global HBM4 market in 2026, followed by Samsung Electronics Co. with 28 percent and Micron Technology Inc. with 18 percent.
The outlook reflects SK hynix's solid HBM partnerships with global clients and its proven quality control in mass production.
"With mass production of HBM4 beginning this year, the market will enter a new phase," an industry watcher said.
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are widely expected to unveil their HBM4 business strategies on Thursday when they release their earnings reports.
Sources said Nvidia and AMD have recently completed quality tests of Samsung Electronics' HBM4 products as well, with official supply slated to begin next month.
