Lee's approval rating rebounds to 58.2 pct: poll

SEOUL, March 9 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating rebounded last week, driven by positive assessment of his livelihood-related measures in response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, a survey showed Monday.

According to the survey by Realmeter commissioned by a local news outlet, 58.2 percent gave a positive assessment of Lee's job performance, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous week.

Negative assessment of Lee fell 1.1 percentage points to 37.1 percent.

Realmeter attributed the rebound to Lee's response following the U.S.-Israel attack on Iran, including instructing a 100 trillion-won (US$68.3 billion) financial package to stabilize the stock market and an oil price cap system, amid the widening war in the Middle East.

The latest survey was conducted on 2,004 adults from Tuesday through Friday and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95 percent.

In a separate survey conducted by the same pollster on 1,001 individuals aged 18 and over on Thursday and Friday, the approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party rose 1 percentage point from a week earlier to 48.1 percent.

The approval rating for the main opposition People Power Party fell 1.4 percentage points to 32.4 percent.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
