Inspection finds 39 cases of misconduct, legal violations by public officials prior to general elections

SEOUL, June 8 (Yonhap) -- A government inspection has identified 39 cases of election law violations and various forms of negligence by public officials in the lead-up to the parliamentary elections in April, the interior ministry said Saturday.

The government conducted a special inspection of public officials from December to April 9 to ensure their political neutrality and investigate other work-related misconduct before the April 10 vote, according to the ministry.

Among the 39 identified cases, 21 were related to election law violations, it said.

The ministry has taken disciplinary action against 65 individuals and has recovered 6.65 million won (US$4,810) in connection with the cases.

Also, three of them have been referred to the prosecution or police for further investigation, the ministry said.
