S. Korea, UAE agree to expand cultural cooperation
SEOUL, May 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korea and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to broaden cultural exchanges and cooperation, the culture ministry said Thursday.
South Korea's Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yu In-chon and his UAE counterpart, Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Seoul on Wednesday, which calls for increasing exchanges and cooperation in the cultural field.
The signing came in the wake of a summit between South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan earlier that day.
Following the agreement, Seoul's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to host a Korean culture festival under the "Korea Season" banner in Abu Dhabi in November, showcasing Korean culture to the UAE populace.
The ministry will push for collaborations with local cultural foundations and universities to organize a variety of cultural performances, exhibitions and other events.
In December, Dubai will welcome a new exhibition hall where visitors can experience globally popular Korean content together with Korean beauty, cosmetics, food and consumer goods associated with the global boom of Korean culture.
A "K-tourism roadshow" is set to take place in the same city in November to boost the public interest in Korean culture and tourism, the ministry added.
