TONGYEONG, Apr. 14 (Yonhap) – Tongyeong in South Gyeongsang province announced on Apr. 14 that “Tongyeong Triennale 2022” has been successful by attracting over 60,000 people in 3 weeks since it was held.

Tongyeong Triennale is an international art exhibition that is being held in various places in and around Tongyeong, starting from Mar. 18, 2022.

It is an integrated triennale that encompasses various genres, such as visual arts, music, and media arts.

It is evaluated that Tongyeong connected the city with the island and turned it into an art museum as a whole.

Tongyeong City has been making efforts to transform the city’s major industry into cultural tourism in order to change the mood of the city, which had been static due to the decline of the shipbuilding industry.

Tongyeong is a city where beautiful natural scenery, in which land and island meet, traces of modern industry, and traditional culture coexist.

Thanks to the event, artworks were built on the site of Tongyeong’s abandoned shipyard, which was once full of large ships and cranes.

“Tongyeong Triennale 2022” reflected the features of the city, where different cultures, arts, nature, and people coexist.

With the spirit of harmony, it was designed as a space-renewable exhibition by recycling abandoned shipyard buildings instead of building a new exhibition.

In particular, the exhibition under the theme of “Take Your Time,” which utilized the abandoned factory, received great attention.

It can be also found in a small village that has relatively fewer opportunities to come in contact with culture and arts.

The festival will be held until May 8.
