SEOUL, Jan. 8 (Yonhap) – Changwon Moonshin Art Museum in South Gyeongsang Province, which attracted attention recently by RM, the leader of the group BTS, will continue various exhibition projects in the new year to leap forward as a representative cultural platform in the region.

MoonShin Art Museum has set operational goals of "resolving cultural imbalances," "new cultural platforms" and "expanding cultural beneficiaries" this year, according to Changwon City on Sunday.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the MoonShin’s birth last year, the MoonShin Art Museum, which conducted various exhibition projects, including a special exhibition to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the MoonShin’s birth, plans to accelerate preparations ahead of the 30th anniversary of its opening in 2024.

In the first half of this year, the Moonshin Art Museum will hold an exhibition using works and materials presented by the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art to resolve regional cultural imbalances.

It will also showcase contemporary art exhibitions and research exhibitions on restoration of works based on MoonShin’s research.

Changwon City explained that interest in the MoonShin Art Museum has been growing since BTS RM visited last month, and that it is also working on inspecting facilities such as visitors' movements, ramps and stairs.

"We will make efforts to establish the Moonshin Art Museum as a representative cultural platform in the region," said Jung Hyun-seop, director of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau.

MoonShin, whose hometown is Changwon, made a name for himself on the international stage for his abstract sculpture.

After returning to Korea in 1980, he opened an art museum named after himself on a hill in Chusan-dong, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon, and devoted himself to creation.

The French government awarded him the highest Order of Culture and Arts, the Chevalier in 1991 and the Officier in 1994.

The Korean government also awarded the Geumgwan Order of Cultural Merit in honor of his contribution to the development of Korean art after his death 1995.
