SEOUL, April 6 (Yonhap) -- The oldest television product produced in South Korea, GoldStar Television "VD-191" was presented at an auction.
Kobay Auction announced on the 6th that the 19-inch black-and-white television VD-191, released in August 1966, was submitted for an online auction at 6p.m on the 7th.
With the starting price of 25 million won, the VD-191 submitted for the auction is said to be the same model as the product that was inscribed on the Cultural Heritage Of Early Modern Times of South Korea in the August of 2013. VD is the acronym of "Vacuum Desk Type," which means vacuum tube, and 191 means the first 19-inch television.
A device for manually turning the channel and controlling the volume are placed in the front, and there is a supporter also known as a "crane bridge."
The same model product that appeared on Kobay Auction was sold for about 30 million won previously.
"The items that are submitted at this auction are not inscribed on the Cultural Heritage Of Early Modern Times of South Korea but are the same model products that were kept by individuals" an official from Kobay Auction explained. "It's really rare with the light-purple screen protector."
"When it was first released with around 60,000 won, the average monthly income of that time was 12,000 won which means that the price of the television was more than five times the average of the monthly income" the official added. "Although it was very expensive, it was so popular that it was sold through drawings."
The auction runs at 6 p.m. on the 16th.
