SEOUL, Oct. 29 (Yonhap) -- Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur and Ji So-yeon of Chelsea F.C., were nominated side by side for the best male and female football player of the year by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
Son was the only South Korean and Tottenham player to be included among the 32 candidates for World's Best Man Player released by IFFHS on its official website on Thursday.

The list of 32 candidates for World's Best Man Player included last year's winner Robert Lewandowski as well as Lionel Messi, Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kevin de Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Erling Haaland.
Gianluigi Donnarumma, who led Italy's victory at the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship, Leonardo Bonucci, and Jorginho were also listed as candidates.
Raúl Jiménez, who plays with Korean footballer Hwang Hee-chan in Wolverhampton Wanderers, was also a nominee for World's Best Man Player.
In addition to Son, football players from Asia included Qatari footballer Akram Afif, Sardar Azmoun and Mehdi Taremi from Iran, and Ali Mabkhout from United Arab Emirates within the 32 candidates.

Ji, was also the only South Korean to be listed as one of the 38 candidates for World's Best Woman Player.

Along with Ji, last year's winner Pernille Harder as well as Samantha Kerr, and Fran Kirby were nominated.
