SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Yonhap) - Actor Kim Jung-hyun, who had been suspended for a while due to controversy over his private life, will resume his acting career with MBC TV's new Friday-Saturday drama "Kokdu: Season of Deity."
Kim Jung-hyun has bowed his head at press conference of the drama 'Kokdu: Season of Deity' held at MBC Golden Mouth Hall in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul on Friday, expressing his ambition to "work harder with a new heart."
Kim Jung-hyun was suspected to refuse physical contact with his co-star Seohyun in the romance drama "Time" (2018) due to the request of his former lover Seo Yea-ji, and dropping out in the middle of the drama.
Kim Jung-hyun expressed his feelings about returning to the drama and said, "I'm grateful to MBC for reaching out to me during a time of self-reflection," adding, "I personally looked back on various events that happened. I learned a lot from my past and grew up.”
"I was worried that I would be a trouble to the good work that actors and staffs have worked hard on since the beginning of the drama," he said, adding "I'm preparing harder with gratitude, so I hope you'll enjoy it."
“Kokdu: Season of Deity” is a fantasy romance drama that tells the story of a dead Kokdu who comes down to this world every 99 years to punish humans, meeting Han Gye-jeol, who is a doctor with mysterious abilities. It is a drama with comic elements.
Kim Jung-hyun plays the role of Kokdu, who caused the wrath of the creator. Im Soo-hyang plays Han Gye-jeol, an emergency medical specialist who is the romantic partner of Kokdu.
When asked about her acting chemistry with Kim Jung-hyun, Im Soo-hyang said, "I said I want to win the Best Couple Award," adding, "The chemistry between the two (Kokdu and Gye-jeol) is important and Jung-hyun acted so well.”
She then praised Kim Jung-hyun, saying, "I was stimulated a lot because I had a lot to learn with acting since his basic skills were delicate and solid."
The drama features Kim Dasom as Tae Jung-won, an assistant professor of gastroenterology who has both beauty and skills, An Woo Yeon as Han Cheol, a quick-witted detective who follows Kokdu, and Kim In-kwon as Ok-shin, the God of Greed and Discord Group, making the story more abundant.
Producer Baek Soo-chan, who was in charge of directing, said, "’Kokdu: Season of Deity’ is a fairy tale for adults," adding, "It is fun to watch guessing whether it will be a cruel fairy tale or a heart-warming fairy tale."
"There are similar parts to other fantasy works, such as setting from previous life to present life, but I tried to make it more like a fairy tale," he said. "I tried to direct the drama lightly as it is a romantic comedy depicting desperate love,” he added.
The first episode airs at 9:50 p.m. on Friday.
