BTS Becomes Most-Streamed K-Pop Artist of 2023; Jimin's 'Who' Tops Song Chart

SEOUL, Dec. 5 (Yonhap) -- This year, BTS reigned as the most-streamed K-pop artist on Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform. 

 

According to Spotify’s year-end report released on December 5, BTS’s tracks garnered 3.9 billion streams globally in 2023, securing their spot as the top K-pop act.

 

Jungkook and Jimin of BTS ranked second and fourth respectively, showcasing their enduring popularity despite being in the midst of military service. Stray Kids and NewJeans rounded out the top five, ranking third and fifth.

 

The most-streamed K-pop song of the year was Jimin's solo track "Who," the title song from his second solo album. Jungkook’s solo debut single "Seven" and his first album's title track "Standing Next to You" followed closely at second and third place.

 

Other notable tracks include V’s "Love Me Again" at fourth place and girl group ILY:1’s debut single "Magnetic" at fifth. BLACKPINK’s Rosé also made waves with her October collaboration with Bruno Mars, "APT.," which ranked sixth despite its late release.

 

Globally, Taylor Swift was the most-streamed artist for the second consecutive year, amassing 26.2 billion streams. She was followed by The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, Drake, and Sabrina Carpenter. The most-streamed song worldwide was Carpenter’s "Espresso," with 1.6 billion streams.

In South Korea, Jimin also claimed the title of most-loved artist for the second year in a row. Lim Young-woong, Jungkook, NewJeans, and V rounded out the top five.

 

The country’s most-streamed track was also Jimin’s "Who," followed by his other hits "Like Crazy" and "Closer than This" in second and fifth places, respectively. 

 

Jungkook’s "Standing Next to You" and "Seven" took third and fourth. Lim Young-woong’s songs "Do or Die" and "Sand Grains" ranked sixth and ninth, further solidifying his domestic popularity.
