SEOUL, Feb. 13 (Yonhap) -- “I didn’t know I was someone who could laugh this much. I missed him, and I’m so happy to see him again.” (G-Dragon)
G-Dragon and comedian Jung Hyung-don, who shared a special bond on the variety show "Infinite Challenge," are reuniting after 11 years in producer Kim Tae-ho’s new entertainment program.
At the online press conference for MBC’s "Good Day" on Thursday, G-Dragon reflected, “Every time we filmed, I felt like I spent the entire time laughing. It was just so much fun.”
Good Day is a music project where G-Dragon collaborates with figures from various fields to create the “song of the year.” As the producer, he translates the stories of the people he meets into music, with the entire creative journey captured in a reality show format.
The program originated from an idea G-Dragon personally proposed. “During my hiatus, I spent time watching both senior and junior artists perform,” he said.
“When I was younger, there were many stages where veteran artists would come together in a show of unity. I always dreamed of being part of something like that, even just standing on the sidelines. This time, I wanted to create that kind of opportunity myself.”
“BIGBANG is approaching its 20th anniversary, and I’m also preparing for my comeback. Since I’m returning to the industry, I wanted to go all in and create something meaningful.”
The lineup for Good Day is star-studded, reflecting the meticulous effort put into casting. The teaser featured appearances by actors Hwang Jung-min, Kim Go-eun, Kim Soo-hyun, Jung Hae-in, and Im Si-wan, along with TV personalities Hong Jin-kyung, Kian84, Kwanghee, and chef Ahn Sung-jae, known as the “black-and-white chef.”
G-Dragon also announced that all proceeds from the songs released through the show will be donated to charity.
“My personal hope is that this project doesn’t end as a one-time event,” he emphasized. “I want to continue building connections across generations through music, bringing diverse people together to sing as one.”
For Jung Hyung-don, this marks his first appearance on a Kim Tae-ho program since Infinite Challenge. He admitted feeling a sense of pressure, saying, “It’s been a long time since I worked with PD Kim, and reuniting with Jiyong (G-Dragon) on a show makes me nervous. I worry about whether we’ll be able to meet the public’s expectations.”
“Of course, I’m thrilled and happy to see GD again, but for those who remember our dynamic from over a decade ago, I wonder how they’ll perceive our reunion. I’m feeling a mix of excitement and anxiety.”
Kim Tae-ho, returning to MBC’s entertainment division for this project, shared his approach: “Lately, I’ve been focusing on stories I personally want to tell, but this time, I also wanted to consider mass appeal.”
“With today’s audiences gravitating toward relaxed and natural content, I chose not to force artificial or scripted elements. Instead, I directed the show in a way that aligns with the personalities of the cast.”
Good Day is set to premiere on the 16th at 9:10 p.m.
