200th Anniversary of St. Andrew Kim Dae-Geon's Birth to held on 14~22th in Dangjin

SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) -- The 200th birth anniversary of St. Andrew Kim Dae-geon who is the first Korean Christian, will be held between the 14th and 22nd of August in Solmoe Shrine Martyr Site, Ugang-myeon, Dangjin City, South Chungcheong Province.

St. Kim, first Korean-born priest was made a saint by the Vatican in 1984 and has been selected as a 2021 UNESCO World Monument.

The event will be done on and offline considering the spread of the COVID-19 infection, according to the officials of Dangjin City and Diocese of Daejeon Wednesday.

The main programs consist of dubbed, St. Kim Online Talk Concert (14th), AKYD Volunteers’ Day (15th), North and South Korea Peace Day (16th), International Academic Symposium (17~19th), Online Liberal Arts Lecture (17~18th), Pray for the End of Climate Crisis and Pandemic Event (20th), Special Mass for 200th years of St. Kim’s Birth (21st) and performing of musical “The Last Letter” (22nd).

“Although events that gather many people are prohibited due to the spread of the pandemic, we have prepared a celebration in which the participants can feel the Saint’s love for people through various contents,” said Kim Hong-jang, the mayor of Dangjin City.

The mayor has also asked for active participant and attention from the citizens and Christians.

All events during this period, are to be broadcast live on YouTube, Saint Kim Dae Geon channel.
