S.Korean music streaming platform Melon introduces over 360 indie music artists in 2022

SEOUL December 13 (Yonhap) -- The biggest music streaming platform in South Korea, Melon released the result of their 5 major projects including the result of “Track Zero” on Tuesday.

Through the project “Track Zero” Melon showcased over 360 various indie artists since April of 2022 by showcasing playlist which consists of indie tracks on the front page of Melon streaming service.

During 3 days worth of exposure number of streaming has increased in average of 5 to 7 times their average streaming rate.

Tracks “Everything” by South Korean indie musician The Black Skirt, singer Car, The Garden’s “Myeongdong Calling,” Mingginyu’s “Run away with me” and more showcased biggest increase in streaming after they were exposed through the project “Track Zero.”

“Top 100 for everything” (literal translation) which lists off 100 of the tracks under segments such as “Grinding Music,” “Tracks climbing the chart,” and more showcased over 10 times the increase in streaming counts of tracks in just 4 weeks of its initial released in June of 2022.

For the MZ generation which enjoys visiting unique spaces, Melon showcased “Hotply” where they recommend places with great background music which attracted over 2 thousand photos showing the spot within three weeks of its service.

Moreover, Melon demonstrated a feature called “Data Lab” where it analyzes users musical spending habits.

“Data Lab” showcased the result that K-pop superstar BTS has 35 of the tracks with over 100 million streams and the data regarding the Melon’s only artist to have reached over 10 billion streams had over 1.5 million views through social networking services.

Continuing on, Melon showcased albums of BTS, IVE, New Jeans, John Legend, Charlie Puth, and more in total of 44 different artists under the segment of “Spot Light.”
