SEOUL, March 16 (Yonhap) -- A prequel story to the hit Korean film “Inside Men” will be produced as a trilogy, its production company Hive Media Corp said Monday.
“Inside Men,” based on the webtoon of the same name by Yoon Tae-ho, depicts the hidden dealings among powerful figures in South Korea, including politicians, conglomerates, media, gangsters and prosecutors.
Directed by Woo Min-ho and starring Lee Byung-hun, Cho Seung-woo and Baek Yoon-sik, the film drew about 7.07 million viewers when it was released in 2015.
The upcoming trilogy will depict the origins of the powerful cartel known as the “insiders,” set in the late 1980s. The story will take place earlier than the timeline of “Inside Men,” which is set in the 2010s.
Directors Kim Min-beom and Kim Jin-seok will helm the project. Kim Min-beom previously worked as an assistant director on films such as “12.12: The Day” and “The Flu,” while Kim Jin-seok adapted the Disney+ original series “Made in Korea.”
The production plans to film the first and second installments simultaneously this year, followed by the third part next year. Filming is expected to begin in the first half of this year once casting is finalized.
