SEOUL, Dec. 31 (Yonhap) -- Son Heung-min's Tottenham Hotspur of the English Premier League (EPL) will play an away game for the 2021-2022 season at Vicarage Road Stadium, Watford, England, at noon on New Year's Day 2022 local time.
Hotspur has been doing well with four wins and two draws in six regular league games since Antonio Conte took over as manager in November.
The team’s league ranking, which once fell to 11th place, is currently seventh with 30 points (9 wins, 3 draws, and 5 losses) as of the 31st.
They are one point away from fifth-placed West Ham United, but since Tottenham has two games in hand, they can pursue or even overtake them.
Son continued his upward trend by scoring goals in four consecutive Premier League matches, starting from Brentford earlier this month to Norwich City, Liverpool, and Crystal Palace.
He failed to score against Southampton on the 29th but induced a penalty kick to lead to a 1-1 draw.
This season, the South Korean striker has scored eight goals in league matches and has scored a total of nine goals, adding one goal in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)'s Europa Conference League.
The player will reach a double-digit score if he makes the goal against Watford on New Year's Day.
Son has a record of scoring more than 10 goals starting from the 2016-2017 season to the last season. If he scores more than 10 goals this season, it will be his sixth consecutive season with double digits goals.
Opposing Watford is considered a relatively weak team that ranks 17th among 20 clubs with 4 wins, 1 draw, and 12 losses, so there is more chance for Son to score.
Son has a pleasant memory of scoring the winning goal of a 1-0 victory over Watford in August this year. The player marked his 200th Premier League appearance with a free-kick goal and took the lead of the team to three consecutive wins.
Starting with the league match against Liverpool on the 20th, Tottenham will play four games in 10 days, including the Carabao Cup match against West Ham on the 23rd, the Crystal Palace on the 27th, and the league match against Southampton on the 29th. Since then, the tight schedule will continue for the time being.
The first and second leg of the League Cup semifinals against Chelsea will be on Jan. 6 and 13, and in the meantime, they will meet the third-division team, Morecambe, on the 9th.
League matches against strong teams including Arsenal on the 17th and Chelsea on the 24th will wait after the match against Watford on January 2nd next year.
