SEOUL, April 15 (Yonhap) -- K-pop artist BoA has opened up about her personal and professional hardships in a heartfelt message to fans, expressing her continued commitment to music despite recent controversies.
In a post shared Monday on the global fan communication platform Weverse, BoA said, “Over the past few years, I have gone through difficult times, not only in my career but also in my personal life.”
She added that the simultaneous changes in her life and surroundings led her to repeatedly question whether she was still meant to remain in her current position.
“Even so, the reason I couldn’t let go of music is because if I were to lose it, it would feel as though my life would collapse entirely,” she wrote. “In whatever form it takes, I want to remain connected with you through music.”
BoA went on to say that while she does not know how much longer she will be able to perform on stage, she still believes in the untapped passion and potential within herself and her fans. “I want to draw out that strength together with you,” she said.
Her comments come days after the singer was criticized for making inappropriate remarks during an April 7 live broadcast conducted while under the influence of alcohol. She appeared on the stream alongside TV personality Jun Hyun-moo and made comments deemed disrespectful toward comedian Park Na-rae, who was not present.
Following the incident, BoA issued a public apology, saying, “This has become an opportunity to reflect on myself. Going forward, I will be more mindful of the weight my words and actions carry, and strive to show a more mature side.”
Debuting at the age of 13, BoA rose to fame in the early 2000s as one of the first K-pop artists to gain major success in both South Korea and Japan. She remains a prominent figure in the Korean music industry.
