SEOUL, January 4 (Yonhap) -- The Russian State Ballet Theater of Moscow will tour Korea in September, according to the International Music and Arts Society on Wednesday.
The Russian State Ballet Theater of Moscow will meet the Korean audiences in Seoul and other parts of Korea with the original version of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake."
The Russian State Ballet Theater of Moscow is considered one of Russia's leading ballet companies along with the Bolshoi Ballet (Moscow) and the Marinsky Ballet (St. Petersburg).
The International Music and Arts Society, who brings performance groups in to Korea, said it officially signed a contract with the Russian State Ballet Theater of Moscow in Moscow November 2022, adding that the ballet company has already obtained permission from the Russian Ministry of Culture to perform overseas.
The team plans to perform twice in Seoul and other cities of Korea in September with 47 people visiting Korea. The detailed schedule and venue of the performance in have not yet been confirmed.
Russian State Ballet Theater of Moscow is holding their tour in Korea for the first time.
However, if the war between Russia and Ukraine continues until September, there is a possibility that critical public opinion will be raised on the performance of a national art group as they are directly supported by the Russian government.
In this regard, the organizer of the International Music and Arts Society said, "We also thought about such concerns but also at the same time we thought that a Russian art group could deliver a message of pease in Korea," adding, "Politics and art are separate issues, and those who will come to the performance of the Russian National Ballet will only evaluate art by itself."
