SEOUL, April 14 (Yonhap) -- Popular Japanese band back number will hold its first concert in South Korea on Sept. 12-13 at KINTEX in Goyang, just northwest of Seoul, the organizer said Tuesday.

The three-member band, consisting of Iyori Shimizu (vocals, guitar), Kazuya Kojima (bass) and Hisashi Kurihara (drums), was formed in 2004.

Since its official debut in 2011, the group has gained popularity with emotionally resonant lyrics and melodies that convey themes of love, heartbreak, youth and everyday life, earning it the nickname “king of love songs.”

The band is known for hit songs such as "Suiheisen," "Happy End" and "Christmas Song," with more than 30 tracks surpassing 100 million streams.

Among them, "Suiheisen," inspired by letters from high school students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, topped streaming charts for nine consecutive weeks and became one of the band’s signature songs.

The band is set to embark on its largest-ever tour, "Grateful Yesterdays Tour 2026," starting next month, performing in stadiums across five Japanese cities for an audience of more than 500,000. The Seoul concert will be part of the tour’s Asia leg.

The organizer said the band plans to showcase its signature hits along with more evolved live performances at the upcoming concert.
