SEOUL, Aug. 17 (Yonhap) -- This year's 23rd Seoul International Women's Film Festival announced Tuesday that it has confirmed "Tove" as the opening film.
The film depicts the life of Tove Jansson, a queer artist and the creator of Finland's representative character "Moomin" series. Rather than focusing on Jansson's career and success, the film takes a closer look into the female queer artist's personal relationships, resulting anxiety, tension, self-discovery, growth, freedom, and independence.
"Tove" is directed by Finnish female director Zaida Bergroth, who won the Flash Forward award at the 2009 Busan International Film Festival for her first feature film "Last Cowboy Standing."
The Seoul International Women's Film Festival evaluated "Tove" as a biopic that focuses on the freedom, vitality and exuberance of the female artist, and said that the film is meaningful since the director as well as the major staff members such as filmmakers and screenwriters were all women. "Tove" is scheduled to be screened at the opening ceremony held on the outdoor stage of the Oil Tank Culture Park on Aug. 26.
