aespa Wins Major Award at Japan’s New ‘Music Awards Japan’ for Hit Song 'Supernova'

SEOUL, May 23 (Yonhap) — South Korean girl group aespa received a major award at the inaugural Music Awards Japan, a new pop music awards ceremony in Japan.

 

According to the event's official website on Friday, aespa won the Best Song Asia category for their recent hit single “Supernova” during the ceremony held at the ROHM Theatre Kyoto on Thursday.

 

The Music Awards Japan, held for the first time this year, was jointly organized by five Japanese institutions, including the Recording Industry Association of Japan, and several government bodies. Winners were selected based on data from Billboard Japan, Oricon charts, and votes from industry professionals.

 

In other major categories, Album of the Year went to Fujii Kaze’s “LOVE ALL SERVE ALL”, while Artist of the Year was awarded to Japanese band Mrs. GREEN APPLE.

 

K-pop acts also made notable appearances among the winners. Boy group SEVENTEEN received the Special Korean Popular Music Award for their hit “God of Music,” while BTS member RM featured on rapper Megan Thee Stallion’s track “Neva Play,” which won Best of Listeners’ Choice.

 

In awards presented during the May 21 segment, BLACKPINK’s Rosé and pop star Bruno Mars won Best International Pop Song in Japan for their duet “APT.,” while NewJeans' “Ditto” was named Best K-pop Song in Japan.
