SEOUL, May 12 (Yonhap) -- Rising girl group MEOVV said Monday they aim to showcase their vibrant charms and take their musical identity to new heights with their first mini album MY EYES OPEN VVIDE.

“We want to be like colorful cats — full of different charms,” member Narin said during a media showcase held in Seoul’s Mapo District. “When we first debuted, we had a chic, black-cat image. This time, we tried to express a more diverse and vivid side of MEOVV.”

The group emphasized their intention to expand their musical spectrum and firmly establish their own color. “Please look forward to our courageous journey as MEOVV spreads its wings,” the members said.

MEOVV debuted in September last year under THEBLACKLABEL, the label led by producer Teddy, known for crafting hits for BigBang, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK. The five members — Suin, Gawon, Anna, Narin, and Ella — quickly made their mark in the competitive K-pop scene with a sleek and charismatic concept.

The new mini album includes five tracks: debut single MEOW, previously released songs HANDS UP, BODY, TOXIC, and the title track DROP TOP.

DROP TOP is a stylish pop-rock number that begins with a calm tone and builds with dynamic energy. It conveys the group's determination to face the world with their own perspective. Member Gawon participated in writing the lyrics.

“It was the first song we recorded as trainees, so it’s the track that’s been with us the longest,” Gawon said. “The lyrics are about living in the moment, since this moment is the most passionate and precious.”

Anna shared a behind-the-scenes story from the music video shoot: “Since the video’s theme is freedom, there weren’t many pre-set poses. It was filmed in a very natural and relaxed way. There’s also a scene where Suin, Gawon, and Ella fly through the air on wires — I cheered them on from below.”

Now eight months into their career, the members said they’ve grown more confident in interacting with fans, especially through their fan platform app.

Suin said, “We now have our fandom name, Pompom, and are excited to release our first physical album. It makes us so happy to meet our fans more often in various ways. We’re really looking forward to what’s next.”

During the showcase, the group performed DROP TOP live with handheld microphones, highlighting their vocal prowess.

Asked about their approach to performing, Gawon responded, “We simply love being on stage. What matters most is that our passion and energy come through clearly.”
