SEOUL, May 9 (Yonhap) -- Although Sri Lanka is struggling by declaring a state of emergency due to the worst economic crisis, the flag carrier, SriLankan Airlines, has increased the number of flights to go to South Korea.

SriLankan Airlines announced on the 9th that it will increase the number of direct flights between Incheon and Colombo, which operated one a week to three flights a week from September.

SriLankan Airlines will use the Airbus A330 with 18 business class seats and 252 economy class seats.

Departing at 11:15 a.m. from Incheon Airport every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, it will arrive at Colombo on 4 p.m., while in Colombo, it departs every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday at 9:40 p.m., arriving at the Incheon International Airport at 9:30 a.m. the next day.

SriLankan Airlines expects that this expansion will attract the attention of travelers on a honeymoon package to the Maldives, while also attracting business travelers from South India including Chennai and Bengalo. Sri Lankan Air has the shortest flight duration among airlines to go to the Maldives, where direct flights are not provided.

Since January 2020, Sri Lankan Air has flew along the South Korean and the Sri Lankan sky ways once a week despite COVID-19, helping the South Koreans and the Sri Lankan workers to come and go between the two countries.
