SEOUL, July 30 (Yonhap) -- Noir genre drama “Big Mouse,” which depicts the story of a newly wed couple struggling to uncover the ugly truth of power, began with ratings of 6% in viewership.
According to Nielsen Korea, an audience rating research company, on Saturday, the first episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama “Big Mouse,” which was aired at 9:50 pm on the previous day, recorded 6.2%.
In the first episode, a third-rate lawyer, Park Chang-ho (Lee Jong-suk) with a winning rate of 10%, was framed as a rare genius con artist “Big Mouse” after being greedy.
Park Chang-ho, who is in need of money, takes on the case requested by Gucheon Mayor Choi Do-ha (Kim Joo-heon), but in his desire to earn more money, he takes main evidence to the second-generation chaebol Gong Ji-hoon (Yang Kyung-won), an accomplice of the case.
The threat does not work and Park Chang-ho gets into a terrible car accident. When he wakes up, he finds himself to be Big Mouse.
“Big Mouse” is praised for showing good chemistry of who is fresh newlyweds, Lee Jong-suk and Im Yoon-a, who plays the role of his wife.
Actors’ good performances of the dark atmosphere of the noir play also caught attention.
Lee Jong-suk naturally portrayed Park Chang-ho, who is savvy and clumsy, and there are raised expectations about how he will turn into a big mouth in prison in the future. Yang Kyung-won also heightened the tension by acting as a powerful villain.
Meanwhile, SBS Friday-Saturday drama “Today's Webtoon,” which was first aired at 10 pm on the same day, showed the charm of a positive character in a brighter and more pleasant atmosphere.
In the first episode, which recorded an audience rating of 4.1%, the main character On Ma-eum (Kim Se-jeong), who had been playing judo for nearly 15 years, did not make it to national team for Olympic and joined the neon webtoon editorial department as a new employee on a one-year contract.
The Neon Webtoon editorial department has no employee from open recruitment and it is so-called “last-place department” with no much success even after nearly 3 years. However, On Ma-eum, who is bright and energetic, is genuinely happy to find a job.
“Today's Webtoon,” which is based on the Japanese drama “Sleepeeer Hit!” is praised for bringing out the positive energy of Kim Se-jeong and revitalizing the youthful charm of the original character.
Realistic depiction of Korean webtoon industry and characters such as cold but reliable deputy editor Seok Ji-hyeong (Choi Daniel) and the elite new employee Koo Jun-yeong (Nam Yun-su) also made the drama fun to watch.
