SEOUL, March 19 (Yonhap) -- The opening ceremony of Hoengseong Dutch Cultural Exchange Center was held in Uhang-ri, Ucheon-myeon, Hoengseong County, Gangwon Province, on Friday.

Hoengseong, one of the biggest battlefields of the Korean War, has a memorial to the Dutch soldiers in Uhang-ri.

Hoengseong County has completed its basic service plan last year to create a theme park that promotes Uhang-ri, Ucheon-myeon, which has a deep historical significance.

To promote the project, the Hoengseong Dutch Cultural Exchange Center first opened its doors.

The center, equipped with relics of the Korean War, photo exhibition halls, and conference halls, will be used as a multi-purpose venue for cultural, tourism, and cultural exchange activities.

It also plans to develop as a Dutch theme village with tulip parks and theme parks.

The head of the Future Strategy Division, said, "Although the operation is still temporary, we will actively support the project to expand the mutual exchanges with the Netherlands and establish as a formal exchange center."
