SEOUL, July 17 (Yonhap) -- "The charm of each character is even more pronounced this season. I think existing fans will love it," said actress Go Min-si, who stars in 'Sweet Home' Season 3, set to be released on the 19th.

During the production presentation held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun Square in Seoul on the 17th, she expressed her confidence, saying, "I've monitored Season 3 three times already, and I found it very enjoyable."

The 'Sweet Home' series is set in a world where desires become monsters. The main cast members, including Song Kang, Lee Jin-wook, Lee Si-young, Go Min-si, Park Jin-young, Yoo Oh-sung, and Kim Mu-yeol, return for this season.

Go Min-si, who has been part of the series since Season 1, transforms her character Eun-yoo by cutting her long hair into a bob and replacing ballet shoes with combat boots, always carrying a weapon. She hinted, "In Season 3, Eun-yoo's desperate wish to restore Hyun-soo (played by Song Kang), who has turned into a monster, and her anticipated reunion with her brother Eun-hyuk (played by Lee Do-hyun) are key storylines."

She added, "Eun-yoo is a character who, despite the desperation, wants to survive to the end to protect her loved ones. I wanted to portray her complex emotions, especially when she meets her lost brother Eun-hyuk again."

Season 2 concluded with the surprising return of Eun-hyuk, who was thought to be dead, now back in human form. Season 3 will unravel Eun-hyuk's mysterious smile, Hyun-soo's future, and the relationship between Lee Kyung (played by Lee Si-young) and her monster-born child (played by Kim Si-a), exploring complex maternal instincts.

The inevitable showdown between special infectees, known as MH (Monster Human), and the ultimate evolution of monsters into a new human species is a major plot point. Lee Jin-wook, who plays Pyeon Sang-wook, whose body is taken over by scientist Nam Sang-won, believes that monsterization is humanity's hope. He noted, "All the stories from previous seasons converge to a conclusion in this one," and added, "I pondered a lot about how much control Nam Sang-won has over Pyeon Sang-wook's body. Since Pyeon Sang-wook is a formidable character, watch to see how much of his body he can retain."

The series is directed by Lee Eung-bok, known for his work on 'Descendants of the Sun,' 'Goblin,' and 'Mr. Sunshine.' Director Lee emphasized, "There were some harsh critiques after Season 2, but we listened to viewers' feedback and returned to basics to wrap up this season." He added, "Viewers seemed to enjoy the relationships between characters shown in Season 1. The deep connections will lead to interesting developments as the characters reunite this season."

He concluded with a smile, "All the scattered characters reunite and return home. I hope the fun comes back as well. (laughs)"

In December 2020, the release of 'Sweet Home' Season 1 marked a significant milestone in introducing Korean dramas to the global audience, preceding the success of 'Squid Game.' The series captured third place in Netflix viewing hours in the United States, making it the first Korean drama to break into the top 10 and securing the top spot in eight countries.

'Sweet Home' successfully launched the careers of new actors such as Song Kang, Lee Do-hyun, Go Min-si, Park Gyu-young, and Go Yoon-jung. It was praised for opening new horizons in the relatively unfamiliar genre of creature features in Korea.

At the event 'Sweet Home: From Start to Finale' following the production presentation, Lee Ki-oh, Netflix's Director of Korean Content, remarked, "'Sweet Home' was a pivotal work in the growth of K-content." He reflected, "The power of the story was so compelling that it inspired us to venture into a new genre, ultimately broadening the scope of stories that can be told in our country."

Ha Jung-soo, Netflix's Head of Production in Korea, added, "Sweet Home was our first project requiring extensive visual effects (VFX), and the level of VFX technology needed was very high. It was a series of new challenges, but the expertise gained from this project has been invaluable, greatly benefiting the production of subsequent works."
