SEOUL, Oct. 10 (Yonhap) — Actors Song Kang-ho and Ye Ji-won won Étoile du Cinéma
a for contributing to cinematic exchanges between Korea and France.
According to the French embassy on Monday, two actors received the Étoile du Cinéma awards from the French Embassy at the French Night event held at the Paradise Hotel Busan in Haeundae on Oct.8.
This award, given by the French Embassy, is for a film industry worker who has contributed to the cinematic exchanges between Korea and France over the last year.
Song Kang-ho said, “I remember watching a film at the French Cultural Center in Anguk when I was 20. That was my first step into films,” adding, “I am so thankful and honored to receive this award 36 years after.”
“Thank you for this great award. There were a lot of happenings between France and I. I think this is my destiny,” said Ye. She went on, “I am more glad that I could receive this award with Song.”
A lot of film actors and producers from both countries attended the first French Night event held in three years.
Heo Moon-young, director of the Busan International Film Festival, said, “French director Jean Renoir, one of my three favorite directors in film history, wrote in his autobiography ‘I would rather be a citizen of the film media than citizen of France.’ I want to share his words with every film industry worker here.”
“Korean and French movies have respected and influenced each other for a long time,” said Deputy Head of Mission of the French Embassy, Julien Cats. “I, through this event, want to appreciate the efforts of Koreans in the film industry to spread excellence and variety of Korean films to the world.”
