SEOUL, August 2 (Yonhap) --Jeongseon Hwaam Cave in Gangwon province will be open at night until August 14.

Hwaam Cave maintains an internal temperature of 14 degrees even in midsummer, attracting attention especially on summer.

Jeongseon County Installations Management Corporation decided to extend the opening hours of Hwaam Cave to 8 p.m. until August 14, the summer vacation season.

Tickets for monorail and cart experience will also be open until 6:30 p.m.

From 1922 to 1945, Hwaam Cave was Cheonpo Mine where gold was mined from 1922 to 1945.

Using natural caves and artificial tunnels, Jeongseon county opened a cave with a length of 1,803 m to show the history of gold mining and the mysteries of the natural cave, and opened it to the public in 1993.

Currently, about 180,000 people are visiting Hwaam Cave annually.

"A visit to Hwaam Cave in summer is a healing trip where one can see the mysteries of natural caves and the history of old gold mines with a cool breeze," said an official from the Jeongseon County Installations Management Corporation.
