SEOUL, August 3 (Yonhap) --A World Paleolithic Park will be established in Seokjang-ri, Gongju city, South Chungcheong Province, where Paleolithic relics were first discovered in Korea.
Gongju City announced on Wednesday that it has decided to build the World Paleolithic Park by 2026 on an area of 32,095㎡ in Seokjang-ri centered on the Gongju Seokjangni Museum in order to know the remains of Seokjang-ri more widely.
The World Paleolithic Park will consist of the Paleolithic Education Center, the World Paleolithic Experience Park, and the Paleolithic Observatory.
The Paleolithic Education Center, the first facility dedicated to Paleolithic education in Korea, will be built in a bunker-type underground structure with a building area of 900㎡.
This facility will consist of a video training room, a stone tool laboratory, a small performance room, and a program operation room.
The World Paleolithic Experience Park, an outdoor facility with an area of 14,486 square meters, will include a Paleolithic forest with restored Paleolithic vegetation, an Ice Age hunting ground, a Paleolithic hunting experience, a play area, and a Stone Age playground.
With the Paleolithic Observatory being a place to see the Seokjang-ri ruins, Geumgang, and Cheongbyeok, it will be built on the 4th floor (50m) above ground.
"The Seokjang-ri Paleolithic site is a representative cultural relic of Gongju," said Mayor Choi Won-cheol. "We will develop the SeokJang-ri site into a special place for Paleolithic tourism."
