Bellini's musical 'Norma' to kick off on Oct at 'Seoul Art Center'

SEOUL January 4 (Yonhap) -- In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the opening, Seoul Art Center, will present Bellini's opera Norma,” Giacomo Puccini’s “Turandot” and more.

Seoul Art Center disclosed schedules for upcoming programs which will be showcased within 2023 in order to celebrate the 30th anniversary its opening on Wednesday.

First off, Seoul Art Center will showcase their original performances which will be showcased in Seoul Art Center’s latest addition to the facility, Opera House which opened in 1993.

Starting in October 26 until October 29, Opera “Norma” by Bellini, which legendary soprano singer Maria Callas performed its lead role in total of 84 times will be showcased. “Norma” will be Opera House’s first original production in seven years since they last came up with “The Magic Flute” in 2016.

“’Normal’ which will be put on play encompasses Seoul Art Center’s dedication and devotion to provide fine art to audience,” adding “By joining forces with world class vocals and higher quality of finished production we plan to provide the audience with superb musical experience.” addressed Seoul Art Center.

Before the kick off of Bellini's “Norma” from August 15 until 20, Puccini’s opera “Truandot” which attracted vast amount of audiences in 2019, will be performed at CJ Towol Theater.

Towol’s historical play series which was put to stop due to wide spread of COVID 19, will be revived. From May 13 to June 4 Shakespeare’s “Othello” featuring Lee Ho-jae, Son Sang-gu, Lee Ja-ram and more will be performed on CJ Towol Theater.

Arts Center Opera House Jayu Small Theater will showcase “Riquet à la houppe” by writer Amelie Nothomb which was highly praised by audiences in 2019. The show which originates from the novel “Riquet à la houppe” will kick off on April 11 and end on May 21.

Classic concerts celebrating the 35th anniversary of the music hall within the Seoul Art Center will also kick off.

On the first day, violinist Jung Kyung-hwa, and Pianist Kevin Kenner Kener will perform a duo concert on February 14, followed by world class conductor Christoph Eschenbach will collaborate with KBS Symphony Orchestra on the second day of the festival. Moreover, on Feburary 22, violinist Kim-Bomsori and pianist Rafal Blechacz will showcase duo concert at the concert hall of Seoul Art Center.

Continuing on with the celebration, Seoul Art Center will host various concerts featuring Christian Tetzlaff’s “Violin Recital” on March 8, Choi Ha-young, and Son Jung-beom’s due recital on March 29, Baek Hye-sun’s recital on April 11, Kim Jin-dae and Park Jae-hong’s duo recital on October 3, and more.

In order to hope for the continuous success of the Music Hall for another 30 years to come, Seoul Art Center showcased Modern Music Series. To kick off the series, Seoul Art Center will showcase a concert by Ensemble Intercontemporain by the legend of the contemporary music Pierre Boulez featuring Jin Eun-sook, Choi Woo-jung and various contemporary artists on April 26,

Inchun Art Hall which opened up on 2020 with about 100 seating are continuing on with its unique trials.

Starting on May 9 until 18, the Inchun Art Hall will showcase Beethoven series where young upcoming South Korean artists will showcase various pieces by Beethoven. Continuing on within the second half of the year to commemorate 150th anniversary of the birth of Rachmaninoff South Korean pianist Kim Do-hyun, Kim Su-yeon and more will perform his classical pieces.

Moreover, Concert Hall of Seoul Art Center will showcase “Martine Concert” every Thursday of the seond week of the month which will feature South Korean actor Kang Seok-woo as a concert guide, and on Saturday concerts, Conductor Lee Byung-wook and Hong Seok-won will greet the audiences.

Art exhibitions being held at Seoul Art Center also attract visitors.

Hangaram Art Museum will feature an exhibition of French painter Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) from May through September, and within the Hangaram Design Art Museum, writer Baek Hwi-na with her bestselling book will host an exhibition from June through October.

Seoul Art Center decided to focus on the educational aspect of the upcoming artist and to increase the admission quota of academy which provided great stepping stone for such profound musicians such as Lim Yun-chan, Cho Seong-jin and more.

CEO of the Seoul Art Center Jan Hyung-jun addressed “We have provided various events to celebrate not only the 30th anniversary of Seoul Art Center, but also for the endemic and for the beginning of 2023,” adding “I hope a lot of people will enjoy and visit the venue we have prepared for them.”

Seoul Art Center opened up the Concert Hall on 1988 and later on opened Hangaram Art Museum in 1990 and lastly it opened up the Opera House in 1993.
