SEOUL, August 27 (Yonhap) — S.Korean music show “Avatar Singer,” in which singers hide their identities and perform as virtual avatars, has debuted with audience ratings of around 1%.
The first episode of “Avatar Singer,” aired on MBC on Friday 10:20 p.m, has recorded audience viewership 1.4%, according to the data by Nielson Korea on Saturday.
In the first episode, the first stage of a total of four teams, including the avatar twin vocals Ran & Rogi, Kim Soon-soo, Memory, and Ian were unveiled. They are implemented with complex technologies such as augmented reality and real-time animation.
Avatar's real singers danced and sang in different studios, hiding their identities.
The unique setting of the avatars, such as game characters, drew attention. Ran and Rogi were introduced as cruel twin sisters who freely handle water and fire, and Kim Soon-soo was introduced as an animal lover with the ability to heal living things. Memory transforms freely between humans and cats, and Ian from Egypt used his ability to control gravity on the stage.
It was not specifically explained how the judges, the follower entertainers, and the audiences would see the performances of avatars.
But judging from the fact that a monitor is placed on the follower's seat and a large screen is also displayed next to the stage, it seems that the stage itself is empty and the judges are watching the video that has avatars on through the screen.
“Avatar Singer” has presented a familiar yet new challenge that arouse curiosity about their identities by presenting talented singers as avatars.
Singers who got on the stage as avatars performed more freely and enthusiatic guess of followers added more fun.
