SEOUL, Sep. 24 (Yonhap) -- A Japanese entertainer Fujita Sayuri who gave birth to her son Zen without marriage, has revealed her story of “About Becoming a Mother on My Own” (translated) through an essay.

Sayuri, loved for her randomness and honest character, has gained public attention for having given birth to a baby boy with a donated sperm in November 2020.

Regarding with the event, social controversies rose about single parent’s pregnancy and birth, single mothers and fathers and family forms out of the boundary of the ‘usual families.’ Having given birth without a marriage, Sayuri became a social icon.

But, there were not many opportunities to hear out her burdens and hardships from deciding to become mother and successfully bearing a son with the contribution of a sperm donor to revealing the event and her parenting.

Although the single mother is appearing in KBS 2TV parenting variety show “The Return of Superman” with her son, through the essay we can meet her deeper stories that she did not 100% show in the TV program.

Sayuri said that she thought that being a mother was a natural thing. As she got a older she became close to break the childbearing age limit but marriage seemed so far.

In desperation, she decided to use the help of a sperm donator, but Korea inhibits sperm donation. Her determination also collided with realistic problems such as being unable to use frozen eggs overseas and with views that single childbirth is a selfish act.

Although, after going through indescribable difficulties, she finally succeeded in getting pregnant and met her son Zen, she still has questions; from ‘Would I become a good single guardian,’ to ‘How will I explain when Zen grows up.’

With her uniquely hones and humorous style of speech, she has melted in her marriage principle and family theory, birth and parenting, and her thoughts and feeling about the people’s views and prejudices

Earlier, Sayuri has already various published works.

“She does not hide. Because she is not weak or coward. This book is full of Sayuri’s ray of love,” said the author Lee Sull-a.

The essay is 232 pages, published by Dasan Books and is 15,000 won.
